Projects

projects Below are some of the projects that the Palm Beach conservancy undertakes. SNARE TRACK Snare Track is motivated by a group of volunteers, who are willing and able to go into dense bush/forest areas to find and disable/remove snares placed by illegal poachers. The South Coast area is plagued by illegal poaching and dog hunting. RECYCLING The Conservancy promotes an active recycling program, working with Redeemed Recycling. Residents ready various recyclables once a month or every second Friday of the month for collection. FUNDRAISING The Conservancy does an array of fundraising events throughout the year to raise funds for projects. Watch out on the news pages for the next fun filled event! BEACH CLEANUPS Community members walk the streets and beaches daily, picking up plastic and garbage. Poly pack and plastics are killing our oceans. It’s a very long process, but every bag filled helps, hence the need to move away from non-biodegradable packaging. Save our Oceans, Save our Planet. MARKETS The Palm Beach Conservancy hosts an Outdoor vendor markets approximately every three months. Greenhart Estate sponsor the use of their Private green space and electricity. Vendors pay R50 to the conservancy to sell their items and promote their business. Locals working together, to make things better. PROJECT CLEAN GROUND WATER The conservancy is testing and tracking the source of High ecoli levels present in the streams coming out onto the Main beach feeds. Ongoing monthly water testing by our Waterboyz to understand where the contamination is originating from. Beautiful Palm Beach

Happy Spring, Palm Beach! 🌿 As the season of renewal begins, the Palm Beach Conservancy has been busy nurturing both our environment and our community. September has brought fresh energy, important projects, and an exciting call to action for everyone who loves our coast. Arbor Day: Planting for the Future On Arbor Day, 2 September, we celebrated in the Admiralty Reserve by planting six Natal Mahogany trees along the picturesque Daisie Trail. The Natal Mahogany (Trichilia emetica), an evergreen member of the Meliaceae family, is known for its glossy dark-green leaves, wide spreading crown, and sweet-scented flowers. These blooms attract bees and birds, making the tree a vital contributor to local biodiversity. By planting these trees, we’re not just enhancing the beauty of the trail – we’re also investing in a healthier ecosystem that will benefit Palm Beach for generations. Improving Accessibility at Main Beach We’re equally proud to announce that two new handicapped parking signs have been installed at the Main Beach Parking Lot. This upgrade ensures greater accessibility and inclusivity, making it easier for everyone to enjoy our breathtaking coastline. Join the World’s Largest Coastal Clean-up Looking ahead, we are calling on the Palm Beach community to roll up their sleeves and take part in International Coastal Clean-up Day (ICCD) on Saturday, 20 September 2025. Held annually on the third Saturday of September, ICCD is the world’s largest coastal clean-up initiative. Since its launch in 1986, millions of volunteers across the globe have come together to remove debris, plastics, and waste from beaches, waterways, and oceans. This year, we want Palm Beach to make its mark. By volunteering, you’ll be joining a global movement dedicated to protecting marine life, safeguarding our oceans, and keeping our beaches clean for everyone to enjoy. Daily, I am inspired, invigorated and intrigued by the beauty and bio-diversity of the nature surrounding us here in Palm Beach. In April 2024 , as an absolute amateur, armed only with a cell-phone camera and an unsophisticated clip-on macro lens, I started submitting observations to the iNaturalist database. I predominantly focused on the insects. This platform not only gave me access to the knowledge and expertise of fellow ”iNaturalists” and experts, but it also provided me the opportunity to share my findings with the global research community of “Citizen Scientist”. The Palm Beach Conservancy requested regular posts about observations for this website. So please join me on this wonderful voyage of discovery into the mysteries of our neighbourhood. During this time, I have found the conservancy to be utterly dependable. This includes addressing issues such as beach clean-ups, road clean-ups, invasive plant removal, and snare hunting. They also assist with wildlife issues, such as rescuing stray baby birds or helping injured monkeys. If they can’t help directly, they will point you to someone who can. Even for domestic matters like lockdowns, lost dogs, or assisting people in need, they are always ready to help. They organize three or four educational tours about conservation every year. Additionally, they are prepared to connect people with assistance for electricity, water, and road surfacing issues. These are some of the best people—always willing to go out of their way and go the extra mile. I truly thank them for everything they do. Leonie ★★★★★ 5/5 Palm Beach Conservancy, I would like to express my appreciation to those who have made the pathways down to the beaches accessible for the elderly. I walk daily and the pathways are a blessing. Also, the efforts made to clean up the beaches. There are dedicated people who pick up plastic and rubbish every day while they walk. Our beaches are almost pristine. Also grateful thanks to Lex, who has made such a wonderful difference to the picnic area at main beach and who is busy tagging the indigenous trees.
